About James Braid
James Braid was a Professional at Walton Heath, Founder and President of the PGA and 5 time
Open Winner. His Open Championship Record: 1901 - 1st Muirfield; 1905 - 1st St. Andrews;
1906 - 1st Muirfield; 1908 - 1st Prestwick; 1910 - 1st St. Andrews.
James Braid designed Bentra (Whitehead) Golf Course in 1935 for the sum of 10 guineas or £10.50.
The James Braid Golfing Society is dedicated to the memory and spirit of James Braid.
the essential traditions and values of the game and aims to pass them on to future generations.
Support is given to junior golf by donations to the Junior Golf Fund at courses played by the Society.
Two official meetings will be held each year and informal meetings between members are encouraged.
The Society will follow in the footsteps of James Braid, especially by playing the lesser-known "village" courses.
